Privacy
POPS (“More than just sport”) is a non-profit project. We collect as little data as possible and do not track users.
What we store
We store data about sports facilities (location, type, condition) and moderator-approved photos with metadata stripped. Browsing the map needs no account and creates no profile.
Accounts
If you create an account we store your email address, the display name and city you enter, and whether you are under 18. A date of birth is used once to determine the age category and is not recorded anywhere. The category does not restrict anything — every feature is available regardless of age. Session IP addresses are not stored. You can delete your account yourself from the "My profile" page — the profile and email are gone for good, while your contributions stay in the open dataset but anonymised, as "former user". The edit audit log is kept with no link to your identity, so the history of the data stays traceable.
Visit analytics
We use self-hosted, cookieless analytics (Umami). Besides page visits we record the KIND of some actions — that someone asked for directions, submitted a contribution, or opened sharing. These records contain neither who did it nor which facility, training, check-in or network they relate to. We build no profiles and do not track individuals across sites.
External map layers
The default map is served entirely from our own server. If you pick an external layer (CyclOSM, Thunderforest Transport, Tracestrack Topo), your browser loads map tiles directly from that provider — it sees your IP address and the viewed area, as it would if you visited their site. The choice is explicit, is not stored, and the default layer never sends anything to third parties.
Problem reports
Facility reports are anonymous — we neither ask for nor store a name, email, or account. For spam protection your IP address is used transiently, only to rate-limit requests, and is never stored together with the report.
Photos
Photograph the facility, not people. All metadata, including EXIF GPS, is stripped server-side before storage, and photos are reviewed by a moderator before publication.
Data source
Facility data is based on OpenStreetMap (ODbL) and the basemap on Protomaps. Community contributions are published as part of the combined open dataset.
